Conversational Intelligent Agents for depression detection: is a thesis addresses the critical gap in digital mental health: the absence of Spanish-language, voice-based tools for detecting depression in older adults. While 90% of existing screening solutions operate in English via text and rely on the PHQ-9, less than 1% target adults over 65. Otero proposes an Amazon Alexa conversational assistant that vocally administers the validated Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS-5) in Spanish. Designed for accessibility, cultural adaptation, and seamless IoT integration, the system overcomes literacy and visual barriers common in aging populations. By bridging linguistics, geriatric psychiatry, and AI-driven telehealth, the thesis advocates for clinical validation and scalable deployment, positioning this solution as a disruptive step toward inclusive, early depression detection for Spanish-speaking seniors worldwide.
Agentes conversacionales inteligentes para la detección de la depresión: es la tesis que aborda una brecha crítica en la salud digital: la ausencia de herramientas vocalizadas en español para detectar depresión en adultos mayores. Mientras el 90% de las soluciones actuales operan en inglés y por texto con el PHQ-9, menos del 1% se enfoca en mayores de 65 años. Otero propone un asistente conversacional para Amazon Alexa que administra vocalmente la Escala de Depresión Geriátrica (GDS-5) en español. Diseñado para ser accesible, culturalmente adaptado e integrado en entornos IoT domésticos, supera barreras de alfabetización y visión. Al unir lingüística, psiquiatría geriátrica e inteligencia artificial, la investigación recomienda su validación clínica y escalabilidad, consolidando esta herramienta como un avance disruptivo hacia la telepsiquiatría inclusiva y la detección temprana en millones de hispanohablantes mayores.
