Abstract
Nowadays, many sectors are harnessing virtual reality to attain fresh user engagement rates and are therefore increasing in popularity year after year. The scope of this paper is to show the necessary skills like, critical thinking and problem solving among others and experiences needed for building a learning scenario related to the naval training. This scenario will cover all the aspects of naval training, like the maintenance and design of a ship and how real world problems related to the management of a ship can be solved.
Two teachers from CIFP Ferrolterra, a Vocational Center of Ferrol, on the north of Galicia, provided useful feedback for this learning scenario. This feedback was provided after face to face interviews with these teachers. Scope of this learning scenario, is to further engage and motivate learners via the use of VR technologies. In order to examine student’s willingness to use VR technologies, a questionnaire was distributed among them. Some of the students participated in face to face interviews, in order to provide some additional thoughts regarding VR technologies. These interviews, provided their perceptions about this new kind of outstanding immersive content. The results of the survey and face to face interviews will be presented on this paper.
This scenario will be used in order to create a Virtual Reality application on a later stage. As a result, a comparison between the available tools and technologies will also be presented.
